Otter Nelson River School

About Otter Nelson River

Serving as the heart of our school Otter Nelson River (ONR) was established in 1987 to serve as a beacon of learning and growth. Within its walls, two distinct educational programs flourish, seamlessly coexisting to cater to the diverse needs of our student body.

Our school boasts a unique setup, accommodating students from nursery to grade 4 alongside those in grades 5 through 8, all within the confines of 35 vibrant classrooms. It is a hub of activity and learning, complete with a large library, a resource room for diverse learning needs, spaces dedicated to cultural language studies, industrial arts, and home economics. The canteen serves as a social gathering point for students. Our large gymnasium is not just for sports; it doubles as a venue for concerts and staff meetings, reflecting the versatility of our facilities.

Nurturing Young Minds from Nursery to Grade 4

At ONR, we're dedicated to inspiring a love for learning in our students, starting from Nursery to Grade 4. We encourage play-based learning to help kids explore, get creative, and build a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Our educational approach is centered around nurturing each child's natural curiosity, encouraging creative exploration, and building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Empowering youth from Grade 5 - 8

At ONR, our dedication to creating a love for learning extends from Grade 5 to Grade 8, preparing students for the transition to high school. Our educational approach focuses on nurturing each child's natural curiosity, fostering creative exploration, and laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Emphasizing Land-Based Education

In our journey through the realms of education, we place a special emphasis on land-based learning. This approach connects our students to the natural world, teaching them invaluable lessons about the environment, sustainability, and the rich cultural heritage intertwined with the land. Through this hands-on learning, students gain a deeper understanding and respect for the world around them.

Cultivating a Love for Nature and Community

Our curriculum is designed to blend traditional classroom learning with traditional experiences, fostering a sense of wonder and respect for nature. We believe that a child's education is enriched by experiences beyond the four walls of a classroom. By engaging with the natural environment, our students learn about biology, ecology, and the importance of loving the people and environment around them in a tangible and memorable way.

Building a Community of Diverse Learners

ONR is a vibrant community where each student is valued for their individuality. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where children from Kindergarten to Grade 8 can grow, learn, and thrive. Our school is a place where young minds are encouraged to explore, question, and discover.
